Haiti Response Team
Meeting the need in the Miami Valley – and around the world
With the recent earthquakes in Haiti, people around the world – and at Sinclair Community College – are rallying to raise funds and gather supplies to assist in recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Sinclair’s Haiti disaster-response team has already raised over $3,000 for the American Red Cross through donations from faculty, staff and students; all donations received go directly to relief efforts. In addition to supplying monetary aid, Sinclair plans to host other donation drives for food and clothing as recovery efforts continue in Haiti.
Faculty, students and staff at the learning centers in Englewood, Huber Heights and Preble County have the opportunity to purchase T-shirts in support of Haiti relief efforts. The $15 shirts feature a quote from Sinclair founder David A. Sinclair encouraging students to “find the need and endeavor to meet it.” Six dollars from each shirt sale will be donated directly to the American Red Cross.
Because of our dedication to affordable and attainable education, Sinclair plans to help reestablish Haiti’s education system. A lot of recovery and rebuilding is needed before students can return to class; but when Haiti schools are ready to receive them, textbooks, desks, school supplies and technology systems are all possible donations from Sinclair.
“When I arrived at Sinclair, it was evident that community is very important,” said Dawayne Kirkman, manager of the Huber Heights and Englewood Learning Centers and member of the Haiti disaster response team. “We’re part of the global community, as well, and we need to support and advocate for the people of Haiti who need our help.”
In the near future, Sinclair also hopes to organize aid trips for interested students, faculty and staff to provide hands-on help in Haiti.
